Undergraduate Workshop on Epidemiology
Feb. 25, 2011 by Chris Rasmussen
The students will attend tutorials on modeling and as well on mathematical and statistical methods to analyze epidemiological data. They will work in small groups and take part in several hands-on lab sessions to study and analyze CDC data. Concepts from network science will be introduced, discussed and applied. The students will also attendĀ professional development panels addressing career and graduate studies issues. At the end of the week, the student groups will present their work.
STUDENT APPLICATION:
Students should use the On-line Application form, and also have one letter of recommendation sent to ugworkshop@samsi.info. Full financial support for travel expenses, subsistence and lodging in university housing will be provided for all attendees. Due to space considerations, participation is restricted and will be offered to approximately 30 individuals selected from the applicant pool. Participants are expected to arrive for the workshop on Sunday, May 15, 2011 and remain in continuous attendance until 12:00 pm on Friday, May 20, 2011.
Applications will be considered beginning February 24, 2011 and continuing until April 8, 2011, but registration will likely be closed before that date, as workshop capacity is reached. Successful applicants will be notified of their acceptance as soon as a decision on their application is reached.
Upon acceptance for the program, individuals must confirm by email within three days their intention to participate (otherwise their place will be given to another applicant). Accepted participants will be advised regarding airfares and will need to purchase plane tickets with a three-week advance fare.
